Monica Sayler
Monica Sayler is chair of our Lion's Lair 2.0 volunteer subcommittee. This means she is responsible for finding, organizing, mobilizing, and communicating with anyone interested in getting involved with the Lion's Lair 2.0 project. We couldn't have found a more perfect person for this position due to her extreme passion and drive in this project. She is an amazing asset and keeps us all encouraged and pushing forward. Her determination and desire to help in this role is fired up in large part to her beautiful grandchildren, Kiarra & Justin Brayden. "Both grandchildren need and WANT a healthy, invigorating play source close to home, as do so many of the children in the classrooms," stated Monica, referring to the Lockwood classrooms she oversees as a substitute teacher in the Lockwood school district. "They want it back so bad!"
Monica, or "Monkie" as her uncle and family have called her since she was a "tiny-tot," and her husband of almost 39 years Steve have an extensive history and life investment in the Lockwood community. They have lived here for over 35 years, watching their son attend Lockwood schools K-8 grade (and now grandchild doing the same), participating as one of the original Project L.O.V.E parents, helped raise the original Lion's Lair in 1994, and her husband has worked in maintenance at the school since 1987! When she is not substitute teaching or working on Lion's Lair 2.0, she enjoys caring for and spending time with her family, reading biographies, and taking an occasional nap.
Her flourishing heart for this community and school is commendable and inspiring, as she lives out her life motto of "Life is for Living!" This is evident when she describes the original Lions' Lair as an "Opportunity to participate in a community adventure." "To see the community work together in that week of the build...I've never seen anything like it before, or since then. With the local enthusiasm, and 2.0 goal in mind, we can make an even better one!"
If you are interested in helping at any capacity with Lion's Lair 2.0 or have further questions as to how you might get involved, please contact Monica as she would love to get you connected and on the volunteer roster!
